I am Associate Professor in the International Studies Department at the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana.  I am also Director of the Environment and Natural Resource Governance Program at the Ostrom Workshop. 

​I study comparative political economy, politics of the environment, violent conflict, and state capacity. My work has been published in the American
Political Science Review, Annual Review of Political Science, Journal of Theoretical Politics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Political Geography.
